An interesting look at the Glading Administration from the perspective of their 2008 Campaign literature. When we compare Laura Glading’s 2008 campaign pledges to the reality we face three years later, it’s clear that this administration has failed us on every level.

Laura Glading promised the APFA membership the "richest and quickest contract" in her campaign literature. Three years later we’ve seen nothing but side letter after side letter further eroding our careers with the grand finale being another side letter offering to extend the 2003 Restructuring Agreement.

Understanding that Laura Glading lost her treasurer to a financial impropriety scandal, and understanding that there’s now a rift between herself and her vice-president, Brett Durkin, it’s clear that this administration is politically impotent.

R2R - Reserve to Retirement - Glading, Durkin, Pointer, Barerra - 2008

Laura Glading and Brett Durkin looking over another Side Letter of Agreement in an effort to help the company.

FLYER: "The Gladlng Slate will secure the richest and quickest contract for the American Airlines Flight Attendants! There Is no time for on-the-Job training or in-house fighting. Vote for the only team that can get the Job done right."

FLYER: "Laura, Brett, Denise and Juan are the four people who have the ability, drive and experience necessary to get our next contract hammered out and quickly. The sooner we get a contract, the sooner we can all get some relief! This contract will be for the WORKING Flight Attendants. We will focus on pay, reserve, crew rest, scheduling issues, vacation, sick time and profit sharing. It's time to get back what we lost. Laura led us to the '01 Agreement - she WILL lead us back with the "'08 Agreement!."

FLYER: "WE WILL SECURE THE RICHEST/FASTEST CONTRACT FOR OUR MEMBERS:

Kat Clements: "Laura played a pivotal role in bringing this membership the short- lived 2001 agreement."

Liz Mallon: "She is NOT in it for the politics. She IS in it to get the job done."

Jeff Bott: "She is a leader that we can connect with, and by far is one of the strongest candidates I have seen in my years at APFA for the office of President."

Lenny Aurigemma: "The team of Glading, Durkin, Pointer, Barrera "Will UNIFY this divided membership."

Julie Moyer: "These individuals have the experience, cohesiveness and determination to lead us in the most critical round of negotiations."

Eric Bergman: "Take it from someone who has a clear understanding of what we have to lose. We need outstanding and competent leadership at the helm in these negotiations, and Laura Glading, Brett Durkin, Denise Pointer, and Juan Barrera are those leaders.

Steven Ellis: "Laura's slate is comprised of highly experienced individuals and the aggregate of their experience will help insure our collective futures."

Tony Leonhardt: "It's time for proven experience and it's time for REAL leadership. It's time to bring UNITY back to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants. It's time for a team that will get us a ratifiable contract the FIRST TIME AROUND!"

Tim Burns: "The Glading slate represents balance of professionalism: experience, wisdom, dignity and diplomacy. Our union needs a healthy, channeled vision, not the misguided anger and histrionics the other slates emanate. Laura doesn't need to reinvent the wheel -- she is an active union leader and flight attendant advocate who understands both sides of the coin and will represent us well at the bargaining table. I've seen the other candidates' platforms, and I must say, my full support goes to the R2R Glading slate!"

Michele Nasca: "I have personally known and worked with Laura for over 15 years and have never met a more professional, driven, and respected union representative. Her sense of humor and optimistic outlook enables her to "hang in" there when so many of us are ready to quit."

Tim Burns: "I like Laura and her team since they represent who we are as a corps. All the levels of seniority are there, the experience is there, and most of all the smarts and the integrity is there. I would be most proud to have them represent me and I hope you will feel the same."

Kitty Solder: "'Effective, reliable, articulate and able to think outside of the box.' These are but a few of the many qualities Laura Glading will bring to the office of APFA President. At this crucial juncture leading in to negotiations we must hold our leadership to the highest standard. In my opinion the only choice is GLADING and her slate: Durkin-Vice President, Pointer-Secretary, Barrera-Treasurer."

Todd Breckenridge: "I can tell you that Laura has picked some of the most intelligent, experienced and knowledgeable people out there. I have complete faith in Brett, Denise and Juan, and the challenges that will face them in the future. It is NOT going to be an easy, or short, road ahead of us. The upcoming negotiations are probably the most important, and crucial, that we have ever."

Julie May Moyer: "I support a slate that has experience, a winning record, and the determination to get the best contract they can. These people aren't worried about being liked by the company, and their integrity and results will convince you of what I already know about these people. There couldn't be a better team to lead us back into a career rather than a dead end job. The slate to support is GLADING DURKIN BARRERA and POINTER."

Mary McKenna: "I was thrilled when Laura Glading announced her run for APFA President. I felt that we finally had a chance to get back all we had lost"

Eric Hodgson: "I just can't take another round of shady politics for 4 years so I am encouraging all of you, for the sake of your career, job security and your contract, vote the ENTIRE Glading slate. Glading, Durkin, Pointer, Barrera. Let's stop dividing and start conquering."

Jerry Loomis, David Ranson, Tony Leonhardt (FA News): "Her only allegiance is to the flight attendant and the flight attendant career. Laura's depth of support proves that she is the only one who can truly unite the entire membership for the fight of our careers. There is no other leader more qualified for that fight, no other leader more feared by American Airlines, than Laura Glading."

Suzanne Edwards: "From the moment I met Laura in 1992, it was clear that she was a fierce advocate for F/As rights. She is always ready, to do what it takes, to get the job done."

Eric Bergman: "Fortunately, we have one incredible slate of candidates who have stepped forward to lead us in these troubled times. I urge you to cast a vote for Laura Glading, Bret Durkin, Denies Pointer and Juan Barrera. In 1993, I came to depend on Laura Glading as one of the smartest, most reliable and dependable base leaders within APFA."

Barbara Rives: "It's easy to sit on the sidelines slinging accusations and beating your chest that you somehow you have the ability to do it better. It is another thing to be able to put your money where your mouth is. Laura Glading and her slate have done just that. What I see in Baumert and his slate is, quite simply, transparent as well as insulting to those of us who have given years of service to APFA. "

Larry & Cathy Salas: "A vote for the Glading Slate is a vote for success!"

John Nikides: "John (Ward) and I were friends for many years, but, most recently, during his last stint as APFA President, I saw him take actions that seriously undermined the best interests of the flight attendants he represented and which shook the very foundations of the APFA. I broke all ties with him, because I cannot be a party to his dishonesty and toxicity."
