Tim Todd for APFA Secretary
Willingness to Serve Statement
WOW! Four years of SILENT negotiations — does anyone have any idea what APFA is even asking for?
One thing we know is that secrecy isn't good for employees. It's what gutted 33% of our contract in 2003.
When confronted on the issue, the current leadership says it's "confidential"; to rephrase, only the company can know what APFA is asking for, dues paying members aren't entitled!
Ask yourself, if the company can know what we're asking for, why can't we? Doesn't APFA represent OUR interests?
One thing we know is that secrecy isn't good for employees. It's what gutted 33% of our contract in 2003 - millions taken from employees were given to AMR's executives all in the name of "confidentiality." As the Wall Street Journal reported:
"[AMR] said it briefed union leaders before the [2003] voting, but under confidentiality restrictions, on all aspects of executive compensation, including the supplemental pension funding and the retention bonus program. ... The program will pay six top executives twice their base salaries and a seventh executive 1.5 times base salary for staying with the company."
As candidate for APFA Secretary, my responsibility will be the handling of the Communications Department. One of the greatest challenges I'll face will be returning the department to its original function: communications. This much-needed service must be restored.
The We-Want-Our-Money-Back slate" is a communicating slate: witness our beginnings when your rights were trampled and your income stolen. When APFA leadership traded OUR CONTRACT for a SIDE LETTER of AGREEMENT, it was OUR group who brought this scandal to the memberships' attention; it was our group who spent eight years fighting AMR in Federal Court.
Sadly, had APFA's last three presidents not sided with AMR, flight attendants could have prevailed.
I am proud to be a part of this group and know you will be too! Stand firm as YOU are the face of American Airlines.
APFA is OUR union. Let's take it back.
